CJ Metal & A History In Metal Recycling
You can trace our scrap metal recycling roots all the way back to the swinging-60’s and what an incredible journey it has been right to this day!
Where It All Began
David Sandham began his career in the scrap metal recycling industry in the 1960s, soon opening his own scrap yard venture after he had learnt the trade. With expertise comes expansion and soon David’s brother Richard joined the business to help manage the large volumes of scrap metal delivered to the well trusted local business. A move to a 5 acre site allowed further growth and when David’s son Colin left school and was offered the chance to manage his own site, he snapped up the chance and helped develop the family business into a 2nd generation.
CJ Metals is Born
As Colin gained more and more expertise within the scrap industry and perfected the service offering, it made sense to set up his own business, choosing the Keighley site and setting up the family’s first foray into car spares and a de-pollution unit in the form of a breakers yard located across the road. A third recycling site was opened in Horbury Wakefield and from the support and leadership of the family, it continues to go from strength to strength to this day. All sites are now widely considered state of the art recycling facilities not just in West Yorkshire but the UK.
Continuing the family tradition, Colin’s son Reagan currently runs the non-ferrous department at the Horbury Wakefield site, with Colin’s younger son Morgan looking to start at the family business once he finishes his education. To remain at the cutting-edge of metal recycling, the business has recently launched a new website, offering an interactive experience with to-the-minute scrap car quotes and also custom scrap quotes for heavy machinery scrap and factory scrap clearances.
